Each year, as we prepare to close another chapter of the Golden Year Reunion, there’s a song that always comes to mind—Carole King’s timeless “You’ve Got a Friend.” It was a beloved hit in the early to mid-1970s, and its message still resonates just as powerfully today. With its gentle melody and heartfelt words, it reminds us of something deeply true: “You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I’ll come runnin’… to see you again.”
That’s what this reunion feels like—friends answering the call to reconnect, reminisce, and return to a place that helped shape us. Whether it’s been five years or fifty, the bonds formed during our time at FHU (or FHC) have endured. And while so much may have changed since our college days, the friendships and memories remain constant.
Our student years often seemed like they would last forever. Then, almost in a blink, they became a treasured part of our story. No matter the decade you attended, you’ll recognize the common threads: lifelong friendships, faith that deepened, and moments—big and small—that still make you smile.
That’s why the Golden Year Reunion is so special. It’s not just an event—it’s a return to what we all shared: a chapter of life that made us who we are. This year, we’re especially thrilled to welcome the Class of 1975 into the Golden Year family. Whether it’s your milestone or not, I hope you’ll plan to join us June 11–13, 2025 for a celebration of memories, music, and meaningful moments.
Join us for a soulful day in Memphis—the birthplace of American music. We’ll begin with a self-guided tour of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, where you’ll explore at your own pace through exhibits celebrating the artists and sounds that defined a generation. Then, we’ll head to the iconic Sun Studio, where Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis made music history. Midday, we’ll stop for a delicious lunch at Central BBQ, a Memphis favorite known for slow-smoked meats and classic Southern sides. It’s a day rich in music, flavor, and nostalgia.
Thursday evening will be a highlight of the week. We’ll begin with a tour of the newly opened Jones Family Dining Hall, followed by a walk-through of the new campus Chick-fil-A, a favorite spot for today’s students. Then we’ll enjoy a warm and welcoming reunion dinner filled with great food, storytelling, and connection. After dinner, enjoy a special concert by Petra, the beloved campus pop/rock group from the early 1980s, featuring alumni Jeff and Kandy (Turbeville) Shackelford. It’s a joyful evening of music and memories you won’t want to miss.
We’re creating a slideshow to share Thursday night and would love to include photos from your college years. Please email them to cramey@fhu.bramblettgrp.com or mail them to the Alumni Office (all photos must be received by Monday, June 2; mailed pictures will be returned). It is with much anticipation that I look forward to welcoming you home in June.
