Admission Requirements

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process for the M.S. program at Freed-Hardeman University is a four-step process.

These steps are:

  1. Submit an Application for Admission.
  2. Submit official undergraduate and graduate transcript(s) from schools previously attended.
  3. Submit a copy of a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

Undergraduate coursework must be from an accredited institution with grades of C or higher in each of the following areas:

  • Anatomy & Physiology (Combination of Lecture and Lab) – 8 Semester Hours
  • Kinesiology, Biomechanics, and/or Exercise Science – 6 Semester Hours
  • Psychology – 3 Semester Hours
  • General Algebra or Higher – 3 Semester Hours

TOEFL (TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

The English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test is offered in three formats. A score of at least 500 on the paper-based exam, a score of at least 173 on the computer-based exam, or a score of at least 61 on the Internet-based exam is required of all students for whom English is a second language.

SPECIAL PERMISSION

Special admission into the MSESR may be available for undergraduate senior students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 within nine (9) semester credit hours of meeting the requirements for a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants must submit undergraduate transcripts from all institutions attended. The student is not considered a graduate student and may take no more than nine (9) MSESR credit hours. MSESR courses taken cannot be used to meet undergraduate requirements.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

In each term, students must register for classes a minimum of one week before the scheduled start date of classes. This will ensure time for students to obtain the required books and materials and for the course instructor to adjust the course’s learning activities to the class size.

Will I qualify for financial aid?

Financial aid is any form of money from resources other than yourself for your college education. Federal need-based aid is awarded based on financial need as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should submit your FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1 of each year at studentaid.gov. Is Freed-Hardeman University accredited?

Freed-Hardeman University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, education specialist’s, and doctor of education degrees.

How long will it take me to complete a master's degree in exercise science at FHU?

Students can choose their own pace, but most students complete the program in 4 semesters or 2 calendar years.
